How to Start
Sometimes we have the hardest time getting started when we get into the studio. Resistance rears its ugly head, or we become overwhelmed with choices and decisions.
I find that the best way to get started is to develop a ritual involving my senses. For example, I find that taking two random paint colors and mixing them together or with white delights me visually and in a tactile way. It’s a great way to get my creative juices flowing—the next thing I know, I’m painting!
Want some suggestions for sensory ways to jumpstart your creative flow?
Paint with your fingers
Play with lumps of clay
Open an art supply with an inspiring smell, like oil paints
Play with food (taste and touch)
Look at art or colors that stimulate you
Play music and create in response to it
What gets you started? Please share it with me by emailing me. I’d love to know more about you!
Now get started, you creative creature! Let that work speak through you.
