Face it - You've Arrived!
Many of the artists that I mentor in Visual Artist Accelerator are transitioning—from one career to an art career, from one medium to another, or from hobbyist to professional artist. When you’re chasing your dream and pushing yourself into new realms and a new identity, it’s easy to get stuck in the transitioning mindset.
An artist might say, “I’m a printmaker but I’m transitioning to sculpture” or “I’m in the process of launching my online art business.” We all talk about the journey rather than realizing that we’ve arrived:
You are a sculptor NOW.
You’re an art entrepreneur NOW.
You can charge legit prices for your work NOW.
You have an art style NOW.
Arrival is a declaration and acknowledgement of the paradox of confidence and doubt—we have arrived when we say we’ve arrived. And then we arrive again. And again. We are constantly arriving, whether we choose to see it that way and state it that way or not. Having the mindset that you have arrived and are on your way to the next arrival is a form of leadership and confidence.
Think about your life: Many arrivals are quiet or impossible to see in the moment. There are some drastic Melanie-Griffith-at-the-end-of-Working-Girl moments, but most arrivals are more subtle or sneak up on you. And many transitions can take place in the moment it takes to make a decision or declaration.
What declaration can you make now, TODAY? I’d love to hear it!
